EPHESIANS 6:2-3 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
Consider this: According to God himself, you will live a long and happy life if you respect your parents.
What a guarantee!
Thus, in order for us to "respect" our parents and thus receive blessings, we need to understand from Scripture what God implies by this.
MATTHEW 15:4-6 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.
Jesus suggests that one way for people to honor their parents is by concerning on their needs.
Therefore, honoring your parents goes beyond simply treating them properly or complimenting them to others. You must support your parents if they have requirements. You are honoring them in this manner, in accordance with Jesus.
Mark described the same speech as follows:
MARK 7:10-12 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death: But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free. And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
Apparently, leaving your parents behind with unmet needs when you have the capability to provide for them is obviously not honoring them.
Undoubtedly, how we treat our parents reflects on the language we use and the way we behave toward them.
Honor is a term that meaning to value or reward. God is asking us to place a great value on our parents. When something is valuable to you, you treat it well and promote it. If you want God's blessing, you should honor your parents in this way.
SAY THIS: By respecting my parents, I will experience blessings.
