Speak More Slowly

Published: February 10, 2024 · Reviewed: March 24, 2024

JAMES 1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

How often have you made a statement that you afterwards regretted?

We tend to speak without thinking too much.

What would happen if you prayed to God in silence before you spoke?

Your life would be different if you gave every statement you made some thought and prayer before you made it.

1 PETER 3:10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:

Words have a lot of power, so they should be used to achieve goals.

Don't just talk without a purpose.

PROVERBS 17:28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Always keep in mind that listening always teaches you more than speaking.

SAY THIS: God, grant me the ability to control my tongue.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, guide me to be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath. Help me to think and pray before I speak, to use my words with purpose and not in vain. Let my tongue refrain from evil, speaking no guile. Grant me the wisdom to listen more than I speak, understanding the power of silence. Lord, I ask for Your divine control over my tongue. In Jesus' name, Amen.
