God Is In Charge

PSALM 115:3 But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.

PSALM 135:6 Whatsoever the Lord pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places.

We must first understand what sovereignty is in order to comprehend God's sovereignty. A sovereign is someone who possesses absolute power and is not subject to outside control.

God was all there was in the beginning. He had the option of creating man or not. He made the decision to speak and do whatever He did.

God never spoke anything against His will since He was never compelled to. Therefore, God never said anything that He did not want to happen.

God does not increase in wisdom and understanding like we do. We may now wish we had chosen otherwise yesterday as a result of new information.

But God is an exception to this rule. He is already fully informed.

So there was a powerful God in the beginning. Then He started speaking. He chose to openly share His Word.

He was no longer able to accomplish anything after speaking. Because if He didn't live up to His Word, He would start to lie.

If God ever committed even one lie, the devil, the father of liars, would rule over him (John 8:44). God therefore always keeps His word.

God acted independently and according to His whim. The Bible reveals His decisions to us so that we might understand God's will.

He provided it to us so that we would have a solid base. So that we might be aware of our position and confront the devil as men and women of God, which pleases our Father.

SAY THIS: God is sovereign, but I know He keeps His Word because He is truthful and He never lies.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we acknowledge Your sovereignty, Your absolute power and control over all creation. We are humbled by Your decision to create us and Your unwavering commitment to Your Word. We thank You for Your wisdom and understanding, which is complete and perfect. We are grateful for Your truthfulness, knowing that You never lie. Help us to understand Your will as revealed in the Bible, and to stand firm in our faith. May we always please You as we confront the challenges of life. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
