The Failure To Tithe Does Not Make A Christian Cursed

Published: February 20, 2024 · Reviewed: April 24, 2024

A tithe is a tenth. Tithing entails giving ten percent to God.

God warned Israel that they were under a curse in Malachi 3:9. They disobeyed, which is why it happened. In order to benefit from God's blessings and escape the curse, they were obligated by their agreement with God to follow his Law, which included paying tithes.

However, the New Covenant that governs our lives now does not have the same obligations. Our covenant is a superior covenant built upon superior promises (Hebrews 8:6).

The New Covenant is independent of anyone else's compliance since it is a relationship between God and Jesus of Nazareth. Only by accepting Jesus and therefore entering into union with Him are we granted entry into this great covenant. This is referred to as being "in Christ" in the Bible.

You are given credit for all Jesus did if you are "in Christ." The advantages that Jesus deserved are now yours. And Jesus took on the punishment you deserved already.

GALATIANS 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree,

You could be cursed up until the point where you accept Jesus Christ. Furthermore, even as a Christian, you could succumb to curses due to fear or your own unkind words.

However, just because you don't give God or His agents 10% of your income does not make you damned. Furthermore, you are not condemned as a result of your disregard for

Prayer

Heavenly Father, We thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who bore our curse and granted us the privilege to partake in Your blessings. We acknowledge that our standing with You is not based on our deeds, but on the sacrifice of Jesus. Help us to give freely and cheerfully, not out of fear or obligation, but out of love and reverence for You. May our giving be a reflection of Your generosity and love. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
