1 KINGS 19:9 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
Elijah was terrified, defeated, and bewildered as he hid in a cave.
Why?
Elijah was aware of God and had witnessed him work amazing deeds, even in response to his own petitions. But like the rest of us, he was also a human.
JAMES 5:17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
Elijah only really had one issue, and it did not relate to the foes he was up against. It was because he began to put more emphasis on himself than on God.
God looks astonished by Elijah's evasion to me. I envision Him pondering, "Elijah must be aware that I am superior than all of his foes. Elijah is aware that I will assist him, right?"
The verse above can be paraphrased as follows: "Elijah, what on earth world are you doing here? Do you no longer remember who your God is? Do you still remember that you are a servant of the All-Powerful God?"
Elijah was a person, and we all experience hardships in life. But like Elijah, our attention is the real issue rather than the issues we face.
Either we can concentrate on our lack of ability or God's capacity and abundant provision.
Are you staying inside a "cave" today out of fear of going outside and facing life? Are you concerned about rejection and failure? Are you worried because things didn't turn out the way you expected them to?
How are you doing that? Leave your "cave," now!
God is supporting you. Your supporter is the Lord.
He has promised never to desert or abandon you. Christ is your strength, and through him you may accomplish anything.
SAY THIS: I'll keep my attention on God, who loves me and is more powerful than anything I'll ever encounter.
