Not Be Afraid

Published: March 16, 2024 · Reviewed: April 8, 2024

LUKE 8:50 But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.

The KJV version of the Bible instructs us to "fear not" 63 times and to "be not frightened" or "not be afraid" 31 times. God is undoubtedly attempting to convey to us a very significant message.

Bible hope is in contrast to fear. A belief in God's Word serves as the foundation and assurance of Bible hope. Fear is an adverse expectation that is reinforced by and founded on a belief in something unpleasant. Both require imagination, the ability to perceive things clearly in our minds, and the capacity to anticipate outcomes.

Fear is a result of unbelief in God. The antithesis of confidence in God is fear.

Expecting wonderful things to happen is a result of one's faith in God. Fear is the result of believing that awful things will happen. Hope and dread are both supported by, built upon, and underlying by faith. Without trust in something awful, which is a decision to believe it, you cannot have worry, which is a negative vision.

Your hope or dread is supported by, underlies, and is based on your belief. You consciously choose the belief. After that, it implants into your worldview. That serves as the foundation for your hopes or concerns.

Worry is meditation on fear and caused by fear.

Some people could believe that some fear is beneficial, but no real dread is. We don't need to be afraid of anything in order to appreciate it appropriately and act accordingly. People act irrationally out of fear. Respect for God, or sometimes called as "fear of God" is natural, but has nothing to do with actually fearing of God.

2 KINGS 6:16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

When we consider the state of the world, it is simple to cry out like Elisha's servant. However, when we are prone to feeling terrified, it is simply because we are oblivious to the full reality of the situation. Anything that is against us cannot win since God is on our side.

We should pray to God to help us see the truth. So let's maintain our attention on God's Word rather than the devil's lies, temptations, and roars.

What we see and hear feeds our fears. By deciding to keep our attention fixed on God and His promises, we may overcome fear.

DEUTERONOMY 31:6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Why should you be terrified when you keep in mind that the Almighty God is ALWAYS with you (and in you!)?

LUKE 12:7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Consider the huge price God paid to set you free—the life of Jesus Christ Himself—to get a sense of how valuable you are to Him.

Even a good earthly parent wouldn't let his child who trusted in him suffer. God has the ability to completely safeguard you because God loves you far more than any human parent has ever loved their child.

However, when we react out of fear, we flee away from the safeguard of our lovely Father God's and let our enemy in.

God is for us and looks after us, so we should have no need to be afraid. From a worldly perspective of view, the worst that may happen to us is death, but even then, we will enter into eternal life with Jesus.

1 JOHN 4:18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

There will indeed be difficulties. Trials will take place. However, these are merely chances to succeed and earn eternal rewards. God made a promise to be with us and to support us in all that we go through in life. What then have we got to fear?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, We come before You, acknowledging Your power and love. We thank You for Your Word that instructs us to fear not, for You are with us. We pray for the strength to keep our focus on You and Your promises, rather than the fears of this world. Help us to remember that You are always with us, and that we are of great value to You. We ask for Your guidance in times of trials, knowing that You will support us. We declare that we will not be afraid, for Jesus is Lord. Amen.
