Don't Make God Sad

Published: April 6, 2024 · Reviewed: June 10, 2024

Thankfully for us, God is not influenced by, affected by, or governed by His emotions. However, this does not imply that God is emotionless.

The verses that follow demonstrate that God has feelings just like humans do, and that God may also feel hurt.

GENESIS 6:6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

EPHESIANS 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Human partnerships will inevitably experience miscommunications and wounded feelings. The instinctive reaction when we are hurt is to hit back, to counterattack, so that others will see that we are hurt and that they will also be harmed.

But God's way is distinct. God's instruction for us is to walk in heavenly love.

JOHN 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

Remember that when you act out of love, it is God who you hurt and disappoint. This is important to keep in mind when you have been hurt and are tempted to strike back.

Often, those who harm us are unaware that they are doing so. Most people don't do it on purpose.)

We have a choice in how we react. We have God's divine love imprinted on our inner being since we are God's children. We can let the divine love that resides within us respond.

[veROMANS 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Does God deserve to be harmed after all the love He has shown you?

SAY THIS: Just because someone hurts me doesn't mean I should make God sad.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, We thank You for Your divine love, imprinted on our hearts. Help us to remember that when we act out of hurt, it is You we disappoint. Guide us to respond with Your love, even when we are wounded. May we not grieve Your Spirit, but walk in heavenly love, as You have commanded. Remind us that our actions reflect on You, and that You deserve nothing but our utmost love and respect. In Jesus' name, Amen.
