Into All Truth

Published: April 13, 2024 · Reviewed: July 1, 2024

JOHN 16:12-13 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

In various Bible translations, the phrase "into all truth" in verse thirteen is rendered as "into the full truth" or "to the complete truth."

Jesus reminded His followers that He still had a lot to teach them at the very end of His earthly life. Jesus then assured them that when He had left, the Holy Spirit would lead them to a thorough grasp of the truth.

Therefore, if we are to follow Jesus, we must understand that reading and studying just the four Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—will not lead us into full truth.

The four Gospels include the truth, thus this is not to indicate that they do not. They are crucial because they make Jesus known to us. However, they are unable to provide us with the whole and accurate image of reality.

During His time on earth, Jesus did not fully and completely reveal the truth to us. We are missing the big picture if we don't know what Jesus' death and resurrection made possible. This knowledge is only found in the Letters written to the Church and was only revealed to us after Jesus' resurrection.

The New Testament's Letters to the Church contain the words of Jesus who spoke to us from Heaven through the Holy Spirit and were recorded by His followers.

The Letters contain not only human words but also holy words that were recorded by Jesus' followers. When Jesus told His followers that all truth would be revealed when He left them and sent the Holy Spirit, this is where we ought to seek in order to be guided "into all truth."

You need holy illumination to completely comprehend the truth. God must help you. Human endeavour and learning are insufficient. To direct you into all truth, you need a "Guide".

SAY THIS: By enabling me to comprehend the New Testament Letters to the Church, the Holy Spirit will lead me into the complete picture of truth.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, We thank You for Your Word and the promise of Your Holy Spirit. We acknowledge that we cannot grasp the full truth on our own. We humbly ask for Your guidance and illumination as we delve into the New Testament Letters to the Church. May the Holy Spirit lead us into the complete picture of truth, revealing the fullness of Your love and grace through Jesus' death and resurrection. Strengthen our faith and deepen our understanding, Lord. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
