1 CORINTHIANS 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
Our earthly vessel is our body. We are unable to function on earth without it.
What might prevent you from winning the race you're running here on earth? You might not be able to complete your course if your body becomes unable to work properly.
We have an obligation to care for everything that God has given us, including our physical selves. So, there is no justification for mistreating or abusing our bodies.
God cannot maintain our physical well-being; we must do that ourselves. We can enlist the Lord's support, but we must take action to it (Romans 12:1).
It's significant to note that "I" in the Scripture above is different from "my body." We exist in these bodies here on earth. These may be referred to as earth-suits. You must realize that you are different from your body. Your physical body will pass away, but you will live on after leaving it.
Another method to maintain control over your body and keep it in form so that it can serve you for a long time is to force yourself to exercise.
1 CORINTHIANS 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
Of course, like with every communication from God, this is intended to advise you of what is ideal and what is feasible with God's assistance, rather than to condemn you.
SAY THIS: With God's aid, I can and will maintain control of my body.
