Does God want a group of people who will keep His commandments, offer Him 10% of their earnings, and consistently go to church every week?
NO!
The Old Covenant consisted of that. God would never have established a New Covenant if He had been content with the situation at the time.
God could have continued with the Old Covenant if that was all He wanted. Why did Jesus have to die in order to establish the New Covenant?
The New Covenant, according to God, is not same as the Old Covenant.
JEREMIAH 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:
The Old Covenant basically relied on human labor. The main foundation of the New Covenant is what God has achieved through Jesus Christ.
Because of this, the Old Covenant was ineffective. God is not flawed, but humans are.
Although God never changes, His promises do.
God desires to live in you and to be able to communicate with others through you. (2 Corinthians 6:16, Colossians 1:27). Just as He has dedicated Himself completely to you, God desires that you do likewise.
Jesus did not sacrifice His life for you in order for you to give Him 10% of your time or money. Jesus gave His all as a sign of His love for you. The only proper reaction to what He did for you is to give everything you have to Him.
SAY THIS: God wants me to love Him the same way as He loves me.
