ROMANS 8:16 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
God has a strategy in place to lead His offspring through all the challenges of life.
The inner witness, which is a knowledge that the Holy Spirit communicates to our spirit, is God's basic method of guiding us in areas that the Bible does not address particularly (such as which job to accept or whom to marry). It is an inner knowledge rather than a voice.
ROMANS 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
"Peace" is another word for the witness of the soul.
COLOSSIANS 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
An umpire is in charge of determining choices. Our "unmpire" is the inner peace, or witness in our soul.
1 JOHN 5:10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
Scripture uses the phrase "it seemed good" to characterize the "inner witness."
When I asked God for guidance on how to follow the Spirit, He revealed this verse to me. I came to understand that's how I'd chosen the sermon God wanted me to deliver. I would pray and look on God until it felt right to convey a specific message from the inner world.
LUKE 1:3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
ACTS 15:25,28 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
It goes without saying that a less mature christian could simply use this as an argument for their actions by stating that it "seemed good to them". However, we're not talking about something that appeals to your body or mind, rather, we're talking about your soul, which is where God lives (if you are a believer in Jesus Christ.)
Furthermore, we must always keep in mind that the Holy Spirit will never direct us to act contrary to God's revealed will in the Scriptures. Thus, it is essential to be acquainted with God's Word.
SAY THIS: God is helping me in understanding how to follow the inner witness.
