ROMANS 5:17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
The New Testament shows the great news that God gives righteousness as a prize to anyone who accepts the Lord Jesus Christ.
Righteousness indicates right-wise-ness, or being right.
Righteousness is a GIFT from God — not something you can gain or acquire.
God merely says that you are righteous, as far as He is aware, because you have faith in Him.
You are righteous if Jesus is your Master.
In reality, Jesus is your righteousness.
So, you truly are as righteous as God is — for He's your righteousness.
1 CORINTHIANS 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
