Preachers Of Prosperity

Published: July 15, 2024 · Reviewed: October 9, 2024

I occasionally get asked if I'm a "prosperity preacher."

Some criticize those who preach that God's will is prosperity by calling them "prosperity preachers" or similar derogatory terms.

After considering this, I've realized there are just four potential opinions to this problem.

1. Preach that God wants everyone to prosper.

2 Convince people that poverty is God's will by preaching that prosperity is NOT God's will.

3 Proclaim that while God's will is for some people to prosper, it is not for everyone.

4 Don't give any sermons on the subject. Just avoid bringing up money in conversation.

Remember that Jesus spoke more about money than He did about heaven or hell for those who might feel that it is safer to stay silent and not say anything.

The Bible does not remain silent on the subject, so we shouldn't either.

The Bible explicitly states six times that God does not show favoritism for those who believe this.

Of course, the Bible contains cautions regarding the perils of prosperity.

And we must not disregard them.

Like fire, money can do a lot of harm if used improperly but is a good blessing when used correctly.

Undoubtedly, some people may preach prosperity in a flawed manner, with the incorrect emphasis, or for the wrong reasons.

However, they are not my servants, and they are responsible to their own Master, not to me.

It is not my responsibility to belittle and disparage other preachers.

However, calling our fellow Christians names in an effort to harm their reputations is undoubtedly not the right course of action.

I believe Paul had the right mentality when he rejoiced that, despite people's ulterior motives, Christ was still being preached.

PHILIPPIANS 1:17-18 But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. What then? Notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

The devil wants people to call people such derogatory names because he is afraid they will discover that the Bible actually teaches that God's will is for everyone to prosper, which is true.

God does not intend for anyone to live in poverty!

SAY THIS: Lord, please assist me to pray for my brothers and sisters rather than calling them names.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, We come before You, seeking wisdom and understanding. Guide us to discern Your will, whether it be prosperity or humility. Help us to use our blessings wisely, and to remember that all good things come from You. Teach us to respect and love our fellow Christians, even when we disagree. Let us rejoice in the preaching of Your word, regardless of the motives behind it. Remind us that You show no favoritism, and that Your desire is for all Your children to thrive. Lord, help us to pray for our brothers and sisters, rather than resort to name-calling. In Jesus' name, Amen.
