Pride And Modesty

Published: July 20, 2024 · Reviewed: October 24, 2024

PROVERBS 22:4 By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.

The antithesis of pride is humility.

Humility does not believe itself to be superior to others. "God's grace has made me what I am."

1 PETER 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

A humble individual is one who trusts in God's guidance rather than their own judgment.

Being modest does not equate to being a loser. One who understands reality—namely, that we are powerless without God—and who has the right fellowship with God is considered humble.

A person who is humble will be aware of their need for prayer.

Your level of pride will fall. God will elevate you if you act humble.

LUKE 14:11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

God cannot uplift the proud without doing them harm.

JAMES 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

1 PETER 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

SAY THIS: Lord, please teach me to guard against pride.

Prayer

"Dear Heavenly Father, We come before You in humility, acknowledging our need for Your guidance. We understand that without You, we are powerless. We submit ourselves to Your wisdom and ask for Your grace to clothe us in humility. Help us to guard against pride, knowing that You resist the proud but give grace to the humble. Teach us to trust in Your timing, knowing that You will exalt us in due time. We pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen."
