MATTHEW 22:37-38 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.
There are some orders that are more significant and authoritative than others.
Not all of the Bible contains instructions. It could primarily be described as guidelines (or precepts) for life.
These guidelines might be at odds with one another in certain circumstances. We need to know which ones come first when that happens.
If you don't realize this, you might become puzzled when making a crucial choice.
According to the Bible, children should follow their parents. Children, however, should not follow instructions to disregard God.
EPHESIANS 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
The Bible commands us to submit to political authorities. But what if you reside in a nation where being a Christian is prohibited? A believer may occasionally have to disobey human government because it is obvious that God has greater power than it does.
TITUS 3:1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
ACTS 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
These illustrations should demonstrate that there are instances when we must disobey one commandment of Scripture in order to obey another that is more crucial.
Our spiritual authorities, like pastors, should be followed. But those leaders are fallible people who make mistakes. You shouldn't blindly obey them if they instruct you to do something that is against God.
HEBREWS 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
We are expected to follow orders from those we serve for. But if we are requested to do something wrong or immoral, we shouldn't follow.
COLOSSIANS 3:22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God;
A teenage boy might find himself in a position where God, the government, his parents, his boss, and his pastor are all urging him to take a different course of action. Whom should he follow? He is required to comply with them all by New Testament scripture!
The highest priority is always to follow God. If and when we are confronted with such choices, we should seek God's wisdom and obey His commands.
SAY THIS: The most important thing is to obey God.
