Jesus speaks many times in the Gospels about doing "good deeds" so that others can see how wonderful you are! What he says is that you already have your reward from the praise and adulation of the people you are trying to impress. You are not impressing God.
I know I mentioned before, that as a teenager I worked in the donation office of a major university. The well-known graduates were expected to be donors, and they were. However, the most famous and the wealthiest only gave a relatively small amount publicly and gave a much more substantial amount anonymously.
Another time, my employer gave very generously to organizations that helped the poor. Only the members of the organization were aware of his generosity. These are people who gave because they truly wanted to help and not because of the praise that their "works" would receive.
The same goes for those men and women who claim to have the power to heal in God's name if only you show your faith in God's power by the amount of your donation to them! They are ones who are crying out, "Lord, Lord," but they are not of the Lord. Jesus never charged to heal anyone, in his time or in ours.
Yes, there are men and women whom God has chosen to work through and has given the gift of healing. However, these men and women never promise healing and they don't charge anyone.
Those who call on God's name and do good works in his name because this is the work of Jesus and not for money or fame, these are the ones that Jesus will know when they meet him in heaven.
