Don't Let Fear Overcome You

Published: November 9, 2024 · Reviewed: December 28, 2024

Jesus invites Peter to come to him walking on the water. Peter gets out of the boat and begins to walk on the water, but when he saw that the wind was strong, he became afraid and began to sink. He called out to Jesus who stretched out his hand and the two got into the boat.

Jesus has invited us to walk on the water of faith with him. We decide that we want to join him, but have doubts and can feel like we are sinking.

People often don't want us to change and once we have accepted Jesus and try to follow him, we change. Our friends and even our families can challenge our beliefs.

I have known people who have become Christians as adults who even have flashbacks of events in their past that make them question the existence of a good God. For others, tragedy can shake our faith. Whether the tragedy is personal or widespread, our faith can be shaken.

If God allows this to happen, then he is not good, because a good God would not have allowed this to take place. These are the types of doubts that can make one's faith allow them to sink.

One of the things we can do to keep the strong winds of doubt at bay is to surround ourselves with other believers. You will be there to strengthen the faith of your friends and thy will be there to strengthen yours.

The devil is always at work to lead believers astray. Prayer, a faithful community, reading the words and promises of Jesus are all tools to keep our faith strong so that we can walk with Jesus on the waters of life.

Prayer

Jesus, you have invited us to walk with you on the water and we know that we will be safe in your hands. Help us to stay strong, and turn to you in times of doubt knowing that you will be there. Amen.
