We Must Be Ready

Published: November 15, 2024 Β· Reviewed: January 16, 2025

"Be prepared," is the motto of the Boy Scouts, and Jesus is telling us that it should be our motto as well.

This week, we've reflected a few times on the importance of living each day prepared to meet the Lord.

We put security systems in our homes and on our property, we wouldn't think of going on a trip without checking the weather report to see what we needed to pack.

A friend was telling me today about being behind a woman in the grocery store the other day who went through the check-out line and when she saw the total, she said that couldn't pay that much and just walked away!

How many of us would go to the store and buy more than they are able to afford? We go prepared.

How do we prepare to meet Jesus? What is the security system we need to put in place in our daily lives?

We need to live each day as if it is our last. We need to love others as Jesus loves us and in that loving we need to do no harm to another.

We need to be witnesses to God's love so that when people see us, they will see the face of the Father, just as the apostles were told that when they looked at Jesus they saw the Father.

If we do these things, we will be prepared to meet Jesus as the faithful servants we are called to be as we stand in the presence of our Father.

Prayer

Lord, you want us to be prepared to meet you because you don't want to lose any of your children. Show us the way to be the people you have called us to be so that we will be prepared to meet you when you come. Amen.
