We say that we believe in God's commandments and that we observe his word, but we still need help.
Good judgment and knowledge are two of the gifts that the Holy Spirit has given to us. When we face difficult decisions, all we need to do is ask for guidance.
Just like the psalmist we can go astray. All we need to do is turn around and repent.
Sometimes we don't have enough information to be able to make good decisions, so we ask for the gift of knowledge. God is always ready to help us out.
Sometimes it's knowledge that we need, other times it's good judgment. However, just knowing the right decision to make isn't enough. We still need the courage to follow through.
I was meeting this morning with my regular Bible Study group and one of the members was saying that she wishes she was the person she wanted to be. Now I believe that God leads to be the person that He wants us to be. But I also believe that we don't always listen very well.
God wants us to be the best us, not the best someone else. We are not all called to be missionaries in foreign countries. We are not all called to be involved in professional ministries. We are called to be disciples.
Just because we don't have the ability, the resources, or the time to go off to foreign lands, doesn't mean that we don't have a responsibility to share the Good News of salvation. It just means that we need to do it in the circumstances God gives to us.
I just switched by dish towels from summer ones to autumn ones. One of the summer dish towels had a saying on it that is appropriate for this: "Bloom where you're planted."
God has given us our mission field and expects us to plant the seeds wherever we are.
