Trust in the Goodness of God

Published: December 18, 2024 · Reviewed: January 25, 2025

When we have God, we have everything we need. God guides us in doing what is right and we are rewarded by others doing well by us. It really is true that we reap what we sow.

Yes, I know that there will always be people who will take advantage of those who do good, but what's the alternative? I'd rather be taken advantage of than be someone who was known for taking advantage of others.

We can choose to live in the light, or live in the darkness. Just because we believe in the goodness of people doesn't mean that we don't have eyes open to the realities of the world. But, otherwise we go around suspicious of others and that keeps us from getting to know them.

If we don't get to know people, how can we love them? Since our mission in life is to love others, suspicion is a problem.

Yes, it is necessary to take reasonable precautions as we journey through life. It doesn't make sense to walk down dark alleys at night alone if it is known to be a place where there is criminal activity. It is not reasonable to ask God to protect us from making decisions that are not reasonable!

That's the stuff of stories such as the man who saw the flood waters rising and prayed to God to save him. I boat came and he didn't take it; a helicopter came and he didn't take it. When he drowned and got to heaven he asked God why he didn't save him and God told him that he sent the boat and the helicopter, what more did he want?

God will save us from dangers to the spirit, to our souls, if only we trust him and are willing to love others as he loves us.

Prayer

Lord, you have given us the light of faith to follow, so that we may see the goodness in others, and avoid evil. Thank you for your love. Amen.
