This passage from Revelation is often used at funerals and you can see why. It gives us hope that we will all be reunited in heaven with God and there will be no more mourning for those we have lost because we will be with them.
We have no idea what the new heavens and the new earth will be like. Some have theorized that it will be on a planet yet undiscovered, but no one knows.
Then there are all the questions about the resurrection of the body. Will we look like us? How old will we be? Will be able to choose?
No one has any answers to these questions either, but it can be fun to speculate!
What we can depend on, is that there will be no more suffering and we will live in the loving presence of God.
Love is the most important gift we have been given by God. We have free will so that we can love. Love came into the world in human form in the person of Jesus the Christ.
God has loved us into being and continues to sustain us by his love. When we choose love, we choose God because God is love.
In the First Letter of John, he says that anyone who loves is of God, and those who do not know love do not know God because God is love. God's love has been shown to us by sending Jesus into the world to save us.
It sounds wonderful to me to live immersed in love; surrounded by love with no fear or worry or any other negative feelings.
It gives me a great feeling of peace when I think of those who have gone before me experiencing God's presence, and as I get older, it gives me a sense of calm in the knowledge that one day I will join them.
