I can do all things

Published: September 18, 2025 · Reviewed: November 5, 2025

There is a story in American folklore called "Chicken Little" or "Henny Penny," about a young chicken that believes the world is coming to an end. He tells the other chickens that "the sky is falling," several times, but nothing ever happens.

Every day he comes back making the same claim: "the sky is falling, the sky is falling," but nothing happens. Until one day, he claims that the sky is falling once again, which nobody believed.

He had said his message so many times it had lost it's meaning, so when the sky actually fell, nobody believed him.

This verse may be one of the most unintentionally quoted in the entire Bible, said after almost every positive outcome by many athletes. It has been said so much that I think it has begun to lose some of it's meaning.

It is also a striking verse in the Bible, powerful, simple, and beautiful.

Prayer

Giving Lord, loving Father, I thank you for your son, Jesus Christ, through which all things are possible. I pray that he gives the strength to endure even, to carry me when my resolve is empty, and surrender to his loving embrace. Remind me, Abba Father, because like him, I know that I can do all things through you and your only begotten son, who died for our sins. Amen.
