A Daughter's Desperate Hope for Her Father's Freedom

My father has struggled with alcohol for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I saw the toll it took on our family, but I always hoped he would find his way back to us and to God. Lately, his resistance to faith discussions has grown stronger. He brushes off any mention of Jesus or the church, and it breaks my heart. I know he’s lost and hurting but refuses to acknowledge it. I pray for him constantly, longing for the day when he will be free from his addiction and embrace the love of Christ. Please pray that he can recognize his need for salvation and that God's Spirit would work in his life to bring him back. I believe that God can change hearts, and I hold onto that hope every day.

Dear Emily, I hear the pain and hope in your words, and I commend you for your steadfast love and concern for your father. It’s incredibly difficult to witness someone you love being ensnared by addiction. Remember that God is a God of hope; He can break any chain that binds us. Your father’s journey is not over, and as Romans 3:23 tells us, 'For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.' We are all in need of grace, and your father is included in that promise. Continue to pray for him, as prayer is a profound way to intercede for someone’s soul. Sometimes, God takes a backdoor approach, leading us to faith through life's hardest moments. As you wait, trust that God is at work in your father’s heart, and it may just take the smallest spark of faith to ignite a new beginning. Let us pray together: Lord, we lift Emily’s father to You. We ask for a breakthrough in his life, that he may encounter Your love and truth in a personal way. Let him rest in the knowledge that You desire his salvation. In Jesus' name, Amen.
