A Father's Cry for His Straying Son
My heart is breaking as my son has chosen to walk away from both our family and his faith. He's in his late twenties and has embraced a lifestyle that strays far from the values we've held dear. It’s painful to see him struggling without the love of Christ. I’ve tried to reach out, but he pushes me away, insisting he needs space. I feel lost, unable to protect him from the consequences of his choices. I pray for his return to faith and our family. I ask for strength to continue loving him unconditionally, even when it feels like I'm losing him. Please pray that he finds his way back to God and reconciles with us.
Pastor's Response
Pastor James Okafor
Associate Pastor, Covenant Presbyterian Church
Dear James, I want you to know that your heartache is shared by many parents who have experienced similar situations. It is in our human nature to desire closeness and connection, yet there are times when distance becomes a painful reality. In moments like these, we can turn to God’s promises. Remember that 'train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it' (Proverbs 22:6). Your investment in your son’s life and faith is not in vain. God is aware of his choices and His love is always pursuing him. As you pray, hold fast to the assurance of Romans 8:38-39, which tells us that nothing can separate us from the love of God. Keep praying for him with faith and hope, believing that our Lord can bring him back into His fold. I encourage you to also seek comfort in Psalm 34:18, where we are reminded that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted. Let us pray together: 'Heavenly Father, we lift James's son before You, asking for Your intervention in his life. May he feel Your presence and love, leading him back to You and to his family.'
