A Mother’s Heartache Over Her Son’s Choices

My son, Jacob, has chosen a path that has led him far away from our family and the faith we once shared. It feels like a weight I carry every day, and I often find myself in tears, wondering where I went wrong. Jacob used to be so involved in church, and now he barely speaks to us and rejects everything we believe. I long for the days when we could pray together and share our faith. It’s hard to see him struggle and feel like I’m losing my connection with him. Please pray for my son to return to the family and to God. I want him to find his way back home—both physically and spiritually.

Dear Sarah, I can feel the depth of your sorrow as you share your heart about Jacob. It's natural to grieve the choices of a loved one, especially a child. The Bible assures us that God loves our children even more than we do. In Psalms 127:3, we're reminded that 'children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.' This means that they have been entrusted to us for a purpose. I encourage you to pray diligently for Jacob and to keep the lines of communication open without judgment. Maybe share your love and concern without bringing up faith initially. As it says in Romans 12:10, 'Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.' Continue to show him the love of Christ through your actions and prayers. Remember, the Lord is near to those who are brokenhearted (Psalms 34:18). I will pray with you for Jacob's return to faith and family. May God give you strength and peace during this time.
