A Mother's Hope for Her Son's Future
I am a 58-year-old mother of a 24-year-old son who has recently expressed a desire to attend seminary. As a single parent, I’ve always encouraged him to follow his passions, but I worry about the financial burdens and the risks associated with this decision. He is passionate and feels a calling to serve in ministry, but I fear he may struggle to balance his responsibilities. I pray for guidance for him and for our family as we navigate this important life change. I hope to support him fully, but I also seek wisdom in understanding how to help him prepare for this journey.

Dear Linda, thank you for sharing your heart for your son. It's a beautiful thing to witness a child seeking God’s will for their life. Your motherly instincts to worry are natural, but God offers us peace in uncertainty. In John 14:27, Jesus assures us, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you." Trust that God is with both you and your son. Encourage him to seek God earnestly as he considers seminary; remember that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). As you support him, reflect on Proverbs 22:6, which teaches us to train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Pray together, and allow God’s guidance to envelop your family’s discussions. I pray for both of you to experience God’s leading and provision in this journey. Amen.
