A Retiree's Renewed Commitment to Fasting
As a 62-year-old retiree, I've been reflecting on my spiritual life and how I can grow closer to God in my golden years. I've read about fasting and its benefits, but I’ve never really put it into practice. I feel like this could be a wonderful way to deepen my relationship with God, yet I struggle with the idea of fasting. Will my age affect my ability to fast? I’m asking for prayer to help me commit to this spiritual discipline in a way that’s healthy and inspiring. I want to serve God in this new season of life.

Dear Robert, thank you for sharing your desire to deepen your faith through fasting in this new season of your life. It’s inspiring to see your commitment to grow spiritually. Age should never be a barrier to seeking God; instead, it can bring a newfound wisdom and perspective. Psalm 92:14 says, 'They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.' Fasting can look different at various stages of life, and it’s important to approach it in a way that honors your health while still seeking God. Consider shorter fasts or partial fasting and incorporate prayer and meditation into this time. In Romans 12:2, we are reminded not to be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. As you engage in fasting, allow God to renew your spirit and strengthen your faith. Let’s pray: Heavenly Father, I thank You for Robert's heart to grow in You. May his fasting journey be filled with joy, health, and spiritual renewal. Guide him in this process, Lord. In Jesus' name, Amen.
