A Son's Struggle: Balancing Life and Care

I am a 28-year-old man caring for my mother who has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Every day feels like a battle, balancing work, my social life, and the emotional toll of watching someone I love struggle. I often feel guilty for wanting to take time for myself, yet I know I need to recharge. The emotional exhaustion is heavy, and I find myself questioning my strength and ability to keep going. I ask for prayers for balance in my life and for the ability to find joy amidst this burden.

Dear Michael, thank you for your heartfelt request. It’s commendable that you are stepping up to care for your mother during this challenging time. The emotional burden of caregiving can indeed be overwhelming, but remember that you are not alone. The Lord understands your struggles, as He tells us in Psalms 34:18: 'The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.' God is close to you during these heavy moments, ready to comfort and sustain you. It’s also essential to take care of yourself; even Jesus took time away from the crowd to recharge (Mark 6:31). Establishing boundaries and seeking support from friends or church members can help you maintain balance in your life. I encourage you to lean on God’s promises, particularly in Philippians 4:7, which says, 'And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.' May you find peace and strength in God as you navigate this journey. I will pray for you and your mother, asking God to grant you both comfort and healing. Amen.
