A Veteran's Struggle with Isolation

·Mark·October 19, 2024

Since returning from service, I often feel isolated and disconnected from my loved ones. I want to reach out, but I struggle with feelings of shame and unworthiness. I fear that sharing my experiences will burden my family or that they won’t understand the darkness I wrestle with. Even in a room full of people, I feel utterly alone. I long for fellowship and understanding but don’t know how to bridge that gap. Please pray that I can find the courage to open up and connect with my family again, as well as the strength to fight against this loneliness.

Dear Mark, thank you for being so honest about your feelings of isolation. It takes immense courage to express what is often kept hidden. I want you to know that your feelings are valid, and you are not alone in this struggle. In Matthew 11:28, Jesus invites us, 'Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.' Finding rest in Him is a vital step in overcoming feelings of shame and isolation. Remember, you are part of a larger family—both your earthly family and the family of God. In Romans 12:10, we are called to 'be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love.' I encourage you to take small steps toward sharing your experiences; perhaps a close family member or friend you trust could be a starting point. As you move forward, trust that God will provide you with the connections you seek. I will be praying for you to find peace and the courage to reach out.
