A Young Adult's Hesitation to Return to Church
After stepping away from church for a while due to personal struggles, I’ve felt the urge to return, yet I am so afraid of judgment from fellow members. I’ve experienced such deep pain within my past church community that I worry about opening myself up again. I want to reconnect with God and the church but am uncertain if I can trust that it will be a safe space. Please pray for courage as I consider returning and healing from this emotional turmoil.
Pastor's Response
Pastor David Chen
Associate Pastor, Covenant Presbyterian Church
Dear Jordan, I completely understand your hesitations about returning to church. It takes great courage to step back into a community after feeling hurt. Please know that God desires for us to be part of His body, and in Matthew 11:28, He invites us: 'Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.' Your struggles are valid, and you are not alone in your feelings. Remember that trust can be rebuilt over time, and it’s okay to take small steps. Pray for wisdom, as James 1:5 reminds us, and allow God to guide you in your decision-making. Surround yourself with individuals who reflect the love of Christ, and don’t hesitate to seek out a pastor or mentor for support. Let’s pray: Lord, I ask that You provide Jordan with the courage he needs to step back into community and help him find healing from his past wounds. In Your name, Amen.
