Anxiety About Meeting New People
My name is David, and I’m a 30-year-old man who has always struggled with anxiety, especially when it comes to social situations. Recently, I started a new job and have been invited to a welcoming gathering. I feel a crippling fear of being judged or humiliated in front of my new colleagues. It’s hard for me to engage in small talk, and I worry that I will say something wrong or embarrass myself. I really want to connect with my new team, but the fear of public humiliation holds me back. Please pray that I can find the courage to meet new people and that God would help me see others through His eyes, so I can build meaningful relationships.
Pastor's Response
Pastor Timothy Walsh
Associate Pastor, Covenant Presbyterian Church
Dear David, thank you for sharing your heart with us. It takes courage to voice our fears, and I commend you for reaching out. As you prepare to meet your new colleagues, remember that God is with you in every situation, even when you feel anxious. Jesus tells us not to worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take care of itself (Matthew 6:34). This is a beautiful reminder that God holds our future. Furthermore, He assures us that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Embrace the truth that you are created in God’s image, and He delights in you (Psalm 139:14). I encourage you to pray before your gathering, asking for peace and confidence to be yourself. You are valuable, and your presence will enrich the lives of others. I will pray that you feel God’s comforting presence and that you’re able to interact with your colleagues with joy and authenticity.
