Anxiety from Public Speaking and Social Situations
Hello, my name is Jessica, and I’m a 27-year-old teacher. I love my job, but I struggle intensely with anxiety whenever I have to speak in front of my students or during faculty meetings. The fear of judgment and the thought of failing in front of others leave me feeling paralyzed. I often experience physical symptoms like shaking and sweating, which only escalate my anxiety and cause me to avoid speaking situations altogether. It’s affecting my teaching, and I feel guilty for not being the best for my students. I’m reaching out for prayer to help me overcome this fear, allowing me to communicate effectively and confidently in my role while trusting that God has a plan for my life.

Dear Jessica, I can understand how anxiety can disrupt your life, especially in a profession as impactful as teaching. Trust that God has placed you in this role for a reason, and He wants to equip you with the confidence you need. The encouragement of Philippians 4:6 is vital here: 'Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.' Acknowledge your fears, but also lift them to God in prayer. He loves to help His children. In addition, remember the promise in 1 Peter 5:7, 'Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.' When anxiety grips you, cast those feelings onto Him and allow Him to carry that burden. Finally, Isaiah 26:3 offers us comfort, stating, 'Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.' Trust in His guidance, and I will pray for your courage and peace as you take steps to confront these fears. May God empower you to shine in your teaching role and find joy in your work. Amen.
