Battling Self-Righteousness in My Daily Life

Pastor John, I am writing to ask for prayer as I battle with self-righteousness in my everyday life. It seems like every time I see someone struggle or falter, I can’t help but feel superior and judgmental. I know this attitude is not what God desires for me, and it isolates me from my friends and family. I want to learn to love and support others rather than look down on them. I’m filled with guilt and shame for my thoughts, and I pray for a transformation in my heart. Please pray that God will open my eyes to my behavior and help me cultivate genuine compassion.

Women's Ministry Leader, Cornerstone Church

Dear David, thank you for sharing your heart. Acknowledging self-righteousness is an essential step in your spiritual growth. In Matthew 7:1, Jesus teaches us not to judge others, reminding us that the measure we use will be measured back to us. Reflecting on this can help us shift our perspective from condemnation to grace. Remember, God invites us to walk in love with others, as stated in Romans 8:38, where we find nothing can separate us from His love. Rather than comparing ourselves to others, let’s focus on the grace we have received ourselves. The beauty of our faith is that it encourages us to lift others up, not look down upon them. I pray that you will be filled with compassion and humility, and that you will learn to embrace the love of Christ in your interactions. A prayer for you: Lord, help David to find healing from self-righteousness and fill his heart with Your compassion. Amen.
