Burdened by Eternal Despair

As a college student, I often feel overwhelmed by the pressures of life, but what troubles me most is an ever-present fear of hell. I find myself questioning my faith and wondering if I'm truly saved. Each time I mess up, I feel like I’m losing my chance at eternal life. Friends around me seem so confident in their faith, while I constantly question whether I’m doing enough to earn my place in God’s kingdom. I can't find rest, and this anxiety is affecting my studies and relationships. I just want to feel secure in my salvation and free from this tormenting fear. Please pray that I can find assurance in God's promises and truly embrace the grace He offers.

Pastor's Response

Pastor James Okafor

Senior Pastor, Grace Community Church

Dear David, thank you for sharing your heart so honestly. It’s common for young believers to wrestle with questions of faith and assurance. I want to remind you of Romans 10:17, which says, 'So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.' Your faith is not measured by your perfection, but by your trust in Christ. Remember Philippians 1:6, 'Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.' God is actively working in your life, even through your doubts. It’s important to immerse yourself in God’s Word and listen to His truth rather than your fears. I encourage you to seek fellowship, perhaps by joining a small group or Bible study, where you can grow with others and share your experiences. Let’s pray that God will silence your fears and replace them with His overwhelming peace and assurance. Trust in God’s grace, for it is sufficient for you.
