Caught in the Cycle of Overwork and Burnout

I’m a 34-year-old single mother who works full-time and is also pursuing a degree online. I feel like I’m constantly running on empty, yet I can’t bring myself to slow down or take a rest. Every time I try to relax, guilt washes over me, convincing me that I should be doing more. I worry that my children are missing out on quality time with me, and I’m afraid I might be setting a poor example. I yearn for a balance that allows me to care for my family while also nurturing my own spirit. Please pray that I can find the strength to set aside time for rest and reflection while trusting that God will help me manage my responsibilities.

Dear Sarah, thank you for sharing your heart with us. Your dedication to your family and education is commendable, but it’s clear that you’re in need of respite. Remember, even God rested on the seventh day, setting an example for us to follow (Genesis 2:2). It’s important to recognize that rest is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. Jesus invites us to find peace in Him: 'Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest' (Matthew 11:28). As you seek balance, I encourage you to pray for wisdom, as James 1:5 tells us that if we lack wisdom, we can ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault. Trust that He understands your burdens and will guide you to the rest you need. Let’s pray together for divine peace and strength as you navigate this busy season. May the Lord bless you with moments of rejuvenation and clarity in your journey.
