Chained to My Desk: Seeking Freedom to Rest
Hello, my name is David, and I’m a 45-year-old office manager who has been caught in an unending cycle of work. I’ve lost sight of the importance of rest and balance in my life. Instead of taking moments to recharge, I find myself constantly glued to my computer, pushing through long hours just to keep up. I know I need to change, but breaking this cycle feels impossible. I miss family dinners and quiet evenings with my wife, and I worry that my health is suffering from this relentless pace. I’m reaching out for prayers that God would help me to establish boundaries in my work life and grant me the courage to rest without feeling guilty. I want to lean on His understanding rather than my own.

Dear David, thank you for your heartfelt request. It’s commendable that you recognize the need for balance, and I want to encourage you that it’s never too late to realign priorities. The Lord desires for us to thrive, not just survive, as echoed in John 10:10 where Jesus says, 'I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.' It’s important to remember that rest is not just a luxury; it is part of God’s design for us. In Genesis 2:2, we see that even God rested on the seventh day, making it holy. I encourage you to reflect on what rest means for you and how you can carve out intentional time for it. As you seek wisdom, remember Proverbs 3:6, 'In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.' Let’s pray together for strength and guidance as you take steps toward creating a healthier work-life balance.
