Chasing Perfection and Losing Sight of Rest
I’m a 36-year-old woman who has always pushed myself to achieve perfection in everything I do. Whether it’s work, home, or church commitments, I feel a constant need to excel and prove myself. This drive has left me exhausted, and I find it difficult to sleep or unwind. I recognize that my desire for perfection is taking a toll on my health, relationships, and spiritual life. I want to break free from this cycle and embrace God’s grace instead. I seek prayer for the strength to let go of perfectionism and the ability to embrace rest without guilt.

Dear Rachel, thank you for your openness in sharing your journey. Your desire to excel is admirable, but it's essential to recognize that perfectionism can often be a heavy burden. In Philippians 1:6, we are assured that 'He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.' This reminds us that God is not looking for perfection from us; rather, He desires our hearts. Embracing grace is crucial in our walk with God, as His power is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). I encourage you to take moments to reflect on the things you are grateful for and how far you’ve come rather than solely focusing on what needs improvement. Remember, Jesus invites you to come to Him for rest (Matthew 11:28). Let us pray that you find peace in His love and acceptance as you learn to rest in His grace.
