Confronting the Shadows of My Own Pride
Dear Pastor John, I find myself struggling with pride and self-righteousness lately. It’s as if I constantly feel the need to prove my worth, whether in conversations or even in my relationship with God. I catch myself judging others for their choices while ignoring my own shortcomings. My heart feels heavy, and I know I need to humble myself before God. I want to truly reflect His love and grace, but I’m lost in my own thoughts and perceptions. Please pray that I can recognize this pride and seek genuine growth in my faith. I long for a heart that mirrors Christ’s humility.

Pastor Grace Williams
Associate Pastor, Covenant Presbyterian Church
Dear Emily, thank you for your heartfelt request. It takes courage to recognize pride in our hearts, and I commend you for your honesty. Remember, the Lord addresses this very struggle in His Word. In Proverbs 3:6, we are reminded to 'acknowledge Him in all your ways, and He shall direct your paths.' This passage encourages us to seek God's guidance and turn away from self-reliance. As we journey in faith, it's essential to remember the words of James 4:6: 'God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.' Jesus Himself modeled humility, showing us that greatness in God's kingdom comes through serving others. It’s natural to feel the weight of pride, but let it lead you to a deeper reliance on God’s grace. I pray you will find strength in Philippians 1:6, which assures us that 'He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.' May the Lord soften your heart and help you surrender your pride, embracing humility and grace. Let's pray: Lord, guide Emily as she seeks to recognize and overcome pride in her heart. Amen.
