Coping with Loneliness from Night Shifts

·Anonymous·April 2, 2026

As a 22-year-old recent college graduate, I’ve just started my first job working the night shift as a security guard. While I am grateful for the job, I often feel lonely and disconnected from my family and friends who work regular hours. The exhaustion from the late hours makes it hard to stay engaged with them. I pray for guidance on how to cope with this loneliness and to find ways to maintain my relationships while fulfilling my work commitments. I hope to attract financial stability and peace of mind through this transition.

Dear Ella, starting your career with such demanding hours can indeed be overwhelming, and it’s perfectly natural to feel lonely during this transition. Remember, you are at the beginning of a journey that God will guide you through. Proverbs 10:22 states, 'The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.' Trust that he will provide for you both financially and emotionally. It’s essential to find ways to connect with your loved ones, even in small ways, to help mitigate that loneliness. I encourage you to reach out to friends or family during your breaks to maintain those connections. Philippians 4:19 reassures us of God's provision: 'But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.' I will pray for your comfort and guidance in this new chapter of your life. Let us pray: Heavenly Father, surround Ella with Your love and guidance as she navigates her night shift job. Help her find strength and meaningful connections during these challenging times. Amen.
