Desiring a Deeper Connection Through Fasting
Pastor Grace, I hope this message finds you well. I’ve felt a desire to incorporate fasting into my spiritual life, but I’m unsure how to approach it. My heart longs for a deeper connection with God, yet I fear that I may not do it ‘right.’ I often worry about the logistics—how long should I fast? What should I focus on during that time? I sometimes doubt my ability to follow through, but I’m eager to experience the closeness I’ve heard others describe. Could you pray for me to find the right approach and to build a meaningful fasting practice that draws me nearer to God? Thank you for caring.

Dear Elena, thank you for expressing your desire to deepen your connection with God through fasting. It’s a beautiful step towards spiritual growth, and your concerns are shared by many. Remember, there’s no ‘right’ way to fast. Your heart’s intention is what matters most. In Matthew 17:20, Jesus reassures us that faith, even as small as a grain of mustard seed, can move mountains. Approach fasting with this faith, trusting that God will guide you. Start with short fasts, perhaps skipping a meal or two, and dedicate that time to prayer and reflection on His Word. As you grow more comfortable, you can extend those periods. Proverbs 3:6 encourages us to acknowledge Him in all our ways, and He will direct your paths. Remember, fasting is about drawing closer to God, not about meeting an obligation. Let’s pray: Lord, guide Elena in her desire to fast and grow closer to You. Amen.
