Facing Anxiety About Our Foster Child's Past
We recently welcomed a young boy into our home through foster care, and while we are excited, I find myself consumed with anxiety about his past experiences. I want to provide him with a loving and supportive environment, but I'm struggling to shake the worries about how his trauma will affect his behavior and our family dynamics. I pray for peace in my heart and wisdom to approach his needs appropriately. I want to ensure that I’m doing my best for him while also caring for my own emotional health.

Dear Thomas, thank you for sharing your concerns about your new foster child. It’s completely natural to feel anxious, especially when caring for a child with a challenging past. God has placed you in this child’s life for a reason. Remember the promise of Philippians 4:7, which says, 'And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.' As you seek to provide a loving home, trust that God will guide you in your decisions. Proverbs 31:10 reminds us that 'a virtuous woman is far above rubies;' being a virtuous parent—someone who seeks to do their best for their child—is of immense value. It’s essential to balance your needs alongside those of your foster child. Take moments for self-care and prayer, seeking God’s wisdom, as James 1:5 states—He will grant it to you generously. Let’s pray together: Heavenly Father, grant Thomas peace and wisdom as he navigates the challenges of fostering this young boy. Fill their home with Your love and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
