Facing Fear of Losing My Professional Identity
As I approach retirement in a few months, I am overwhelmed by anxiety regarding my identity. For decades, my job has defined who I am. Now, I feel a profound sense of fear about losing my purpose and direction. The thought of stepping away from my role fills me with dread, and I constantly question how I’ll fill my time and what my new identity will look like. I ask for prayers that God would help me navigate this change without losing sight of who I am in Him. I need His guidance to find new ways to serve, connect, and thrive in this next chapter.

Missions Pastor, First Baptist Church
Dear Linda, thank you for your vulnerability. It’s understandable to feel fearful when a significant chapter of life is closing. Remember that your identity is not solely based on your profession; it is found in Christ. As you face this transition, I encourage you to meditate on Lamentations 3:23, which speaks of God’s mercies being new every morning. This is a time of renewal and growth for you. John 14:27 reassures us that Jesus gives us His peace, which surpasses all understanding—even during uncertain times like these. I encourage you to explore new avenues of service, volunteer work, or hobbies that excite you and reflect your gifts. God is with you, holding your future in His hands. Let’s pray together: Lord, I pray for Linda as she faces this transition. May she find peace and discover new fulfillment in her new identity. In Jesus' name, Amen.
