Facing My Retirement with Uncertainty and Fear
As I approach my retirement, I find myself filled with anxiety and fear about my identity. For over thirty years, I have defined myself by my career as a teacher, and the thought of stepping away feels like losing a part of myself. I worry about what my days will look like without the structure and purpose my job provided. The idea of no longer being a 'teacher' is terrifying, and I feel as though I'm losing my sense of purpose. How will I fill my time? What will my identity be? I am asking for prayers for clarity and peace as I embark on this new chapter of my life. I want to trust God’s plan for me beyond my career, but I need support and guidance to find confidence in that transition.

Dear Margaret, I understand how daunting it must feel to transition into retirement, especially after dedicating so many years to a fulfilling career. It’s natural to associate our identity with our work, but remember that your worth is not rooted in your job title but in being a beloved child of God. Isaiah 26:3 reminds us that 'Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.' As you step into this new phase, lean into God's promises and trust that He has a purpose for you beyond the classroom. Take time to pray and reflect on what brings you joy and fulfillment outside of work. Philippians 4:7 assures us that 'the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.' Trust that He is guiding you to new opportunities for growth and service. Let’s pray for your heart to be open to the new possibilities that await you. God will lead you to find your identity in Him. May you feel His presence with you during this transition.
