Feeling Discouraged After Failed Attempts at Fasting
My name is Lisa, and I am a 42-year-old woman who has been on a faith journey for a number of years. I have tried fasting several times but have always ended up feeling disappointed in myself. I get so excited about the idea of dedicating time to God but quickly fall back into old habits and end up breaking my fast. This cycle of starting and failing is discouraging, and I often wonder if I am cut out for this discipline. I want to experience the closeness with God that others speak of, but I feel like I lack the strength to follow through. I’m asking for prayer that I might find renewed motivation and strength to commit to fasting faithfully.

Dear Lisa, thank you for your honesty in sharing your struggles. It’s important to remember that we are all in a process of growth. The Lord is not looking for perfection; He desires our hearts. In Hebrews 11:1, we are reminded that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Your desire to draw closer to God reflects a heart seeking Him. Don’t forget the promise in Philippians 4:13 that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. It’s okay to stumble; what matters is that you keep seeking Him. Fasting is a way to deepen that relationship, and every attempt is a step forward, even if it doesn't feel like it. Let’s pray together: God, I lift up Lisa to You, asking that You renew her spirit and provide her the strength to persevere in her fasting journey. Help her to see her efforts as valuable, and may she experience Your closeness in new and profound ways. Amen.
