Feeling Distant from God During Group Worship
I'm a 25-year-old woman who just moved to a new city for work. I joined a local church hoping to find community, but during worship, I feel like an outsider. The music is beautiful, but I can't seem to engage with it spiritually. I often find myself comparing my feelings to those around me, and it leaves me feeling inadequate and disconnected. I want to feel that sense of belonging and closeness to God during these services, but it feels like a battle every week. I ask for prayer that I can open my heart to the experience and trust that God is with me in this new chapter.

Pastor Thomas Reed
Associate Pastor, Covenant Presbyterian Church
Dear Jessica, thank you for reaching out to me during this challenging time. Transitioning to a new city can be tough, and feeling disconnected in worship can be especially discouraging. Remember, God has not abandoned you; He is with you in this journey. In Proverbs 3:5-6, we are reminded to 'Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.' Trusting Him means allowing yourself to fully engage in worship, regardless of the crowd's energy. You might also find it helpful to connect with a small group where you can build relationships and share your experiences. Remember, we are designed for community. Let’s pray that God softens your heart and helps you find your place in this new church. May you feel His presence and love deeply as you worship.
