Finding Faith in Financial Hardships

·Anonymous·February 24, 2026

Hello, my name is Mark, and I’m in my late forties. I’ve recently lost my job, and finances have become incredibly tight. I’ve always believed in tithing as a way to honor God, but now I am worried that I need every penny just to get by each month. I feel guilty for even considering not tithing, but I also feel overwhelmed by my circumstances. I pray that God will help me grow in my faith and find a way to continue supporting my church while still providing for my family. I am struggling to see how I can do both, and I need encouragement and guidance during this difficult time.

Dear Mark, thank you for reaching out and sharing your situation. Your honesty displays great courage, and it’s a reminder that many of us face similar challenges. I want to reassure you that God fully understands your heart's desire to honor Him, even in difficult circumstances. In 2 Corinthians 5:7, we are reminded, 'For we walk by faith, not by sight.' It can be tough to see how tithing fits into your current financial picture, but trusting God is key. Proverbs 3:6 encourages us, 'In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.' As you seek God for wisdom, remember that our needs are met in His timing and plan. In Jeremiah 29:11, He promises, 'For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.' Let’s pray together: Lord, give Mark clarity and peace as he navigates these financial struggles. Help him to find the balance in his giving while trusting in Your provision. Amen.
