Finding Forgiveness After Traumatic Experiences

I am asking for prayer as I try to forgive my husband for things he did while he was deployed. He saw things that changed him, and when he came home, he wasn’t the same man. He has said and done things that hurt us deeply, even as he battles his own inner demons. I love him and want to help him heal, but my heart feels heavy with resentment. It’s hard to reconcile the man I married with the person he is now. I ask for prayer to help me let go of the bitterness and to regain the love that we once shared. I want my family to come together stronger, but I feel lost in how to start the healing process. Thank you for your prayers.

Dear Jessica, what a brave step you are taking by seeking prayer for your heart and your marriage. Forgiveness is a challenging journey, especially when deep wounds are involved. Remember, though, that forgiveness is not just for your husband; it is a gift you give yourself to free your heart from the chains of resentment. Jesus teaches us in Matthew 6:14, "For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you." This is a powerful reminder that forgiveness is an essential part of our faith journey. Pray for your husband and for God to soften your heart, guiding you towards the path of healing. As you work through your feelings, hold onto the promise in Joel 2:25 that God will restore what has been lost. Seek opportunities to connect with your husband beyond the pain, and allow space for healing together. I am praying for both of you that love and understanding will be rekindled in your hearts.
