Finding Peace After Leaving My Culture Behind
Hi, my name is Aisha. I moved to this country for educational opportunities, but I find myself constantly mourning the culture and traditions I left behind in Somalia. I miss the food, the celebrations, and the warmth of my community. It feels like a part of my identity is missing, and even though I am grateful for my new opportunities, I often feel lost. I worry my family will forget me as I become immersed in this new life. My heart aches for the connection I had with my roots. I pray for the ability to find peace in this transition and the strength to honor my heritage while pursuing my dreams. I ask for prayers as I navigate this challenging journey.

Dear Aisha, thank you for sharing your feelings of loss and longing for your culture. It’s important to acknowledge that these feelings are valid, especially as you embrace new experiences. Remember, God is a God of all nations and cultures. In Psalm 34:18, we read that 'The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart;' He understands your struggles and is there to comfort you. Embrace the fact that you can honor your heritage while also growing in this new chapter of your life. As you navigate this transition, keep in mind that your identity is not defined by location but by who you are in Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us that 'if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.' I will pray for you to find a community that celebrates both your past and your future, and that God grants you peace in your heart. May His presence fill you as you walk this journey. Amen.
