Finding Strength as My Mother Forgets Me
Watching my mom battle Alzheimer’s is shattering my heart. The woman who used to remember every birthday and family visit now struggles to recognize me. It’s as if I’m losing her little by little, and it’s hard to accept that the memories we shared are fading. While I try to be strong for her, I often feel that I am drowning in sadness and fear. I’m in need of prayer for both my mom and me. I ask for strength to manage my grief while supporting her. How do I cope when the person I love forgets who I am? I want to be her light in these dark moments, but it feels so daunting. Please pray for our family during this time of transition and loss.

Dear Jake, thank you for sharing your heavy heart with us. It’s truly devastating to witness your mother’s struggles with Alzheimer’s, and the emotional toll it takes on you is significant. Know that God is with you through every tear and moment of despair. He sees your pain and understands the deep bond you share with your mother. 'The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him' (Nahum 1:7). It’s okay to feel overwhelmed, and you don’t have to carry this burden alone. Your love for your mother is a beautiful reflection of God’s love for us. I encourage you to find joy in the small moments you still share and to seek support from friends and family. Remember, 'He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds' (Psalms 147:3). May God give you strength and peace as you navigate through this difficult journey. Let’s pray for the comfort and clarity both you and your mother need in this season.
