Holding On as My Father's Mind Slowly Slips Away
Dear God, I come before You in anguish as I care for my father, who is battling dementia. It feels like each day I lose a little more of him. The man who used to tell me stories filled with wisdom and humor is now often lost in confusion. I feel a deep sense of helplessness as I try to comfort him during these moments of fear and disorientation. My heart aches with the reality that he may not remember me or the love we shared. I ask for Your divine strength to help me support him without losing hope. Please pray for peace over our family as we navigate this challenging time, trusting in Your plan even when it seems dark.
Pastor's Response

Senior Pastor, Bethel Church
Dear Sarah, my heart is heavy for you as you witness the slow fade of your father’s mind. This journey brings both grief and weariness, but I want you to remember that God is intimately aware of your pain. In Exodus 15:26, the Lord promises, ‘I am the Lord that healeth thee,’ and while healing may look different in this context, His presence is with you both. Finding ways to connect with your father—perhaps through music, familiar pictures, or even gentle touch—can sometimes reach the soul in ways words cannot. Remember the hope found in Jeremiah 30:17: ‘For I will restore health unto thee.’ Trust that God can still bring moments of clarity and connection into your lives amidst this heartache. I encourage you to lean into your faith community for support during this season; you are not alone in this. Let’s pray for God’s comfort and peace to envelop you and your father as you navigate this journey together.
